Screen Repair Cost: Laptop, MacBook & iPhone Ranges

A cracked or flickering screen is one of the most common device repairs — and the one with the widest honest price spread. The panel itself, the labor to fit it, and whether your device's screen is a simple panel or a fused assembly all move the number, which is why a single 'average screen price' would mislead you.

Use the published ranges below as your anchor. Apple publishes its own out-of-warranty menu nationally, so iPhone and MacBook figures are unusually firm. Windows laptop figures come from Angi cost data — broad national cost-data ranges used here as a cross-check, not as published shop menus. If a quote sits far outside the range for your category, the burden of explanation is on the quote, not on the range: ask what part is being fitted, what grade it is, and what warranty covers it.

What drives the price

Three things. First, the part: a basic laptop panel is a commodity, while a MacBook display is a complete lid assembly with camera and sensors, and a flagship iPhone panel uses more expensive display technology than an entry model — that is why Apple's iPhone screen range runs $129–$379 and its MacBook range runs $299–$849 depending on model. Second, parts grade: original, original-refurbished, and aftermarket panels are different products at different prices, covered in our parts quality grades guide. Third, collateral findings: a drop that cracked a screen may also have damaged hinges, cables, or the frame, and a good shop will separate those line items rather than folding them into a vague total.

Screen damage versus display faults

Not every bad picture is a bad screen. Lines or flicker can come from a loose cable, a failing graphics chip, or software. A shop that quotes a screen before testing with a known-good display is guessing with your money. Expect the estimate to state what was tested, and expect the screen price itself to be separable from any diagnostic fee. If the device also has battery swelling — a raised trackpad or a lid that will not close — that is a separate, safety-relevant repair; see the battery hub before authorizing screen work on a swollen machine.

When a screen repair stops making sense

Run the ratio: quoted price divided by what the device is worth working. Our repair-vs-replace calculator treats repairs above roughly 55% of device value as replacement territory. Screen repairs hit that line often on older budget laptops, where an Angi-range screen price of $125–$200 can approach the whole value of the machine. On a newer MacBook or iPhone, the same logic usually favors repair — especially with AppleCare+, where Apple lists an iPhone screen at $29 (with active AppleCare+ cover — eligible screen damage) instead of the $129–$379 out-of-warranty range.
